One Year in Leeds and Looking Ahead

General

When Forrester Boyd opened its Leeds office just over a year ago, it marked an important milestone in the firm's growth and its commitment to supporting businesses across Yorkshire.

Twelve months later, the office is no longer the new kid on the block.

What began as a team of four has grown to seven, with new senior appointments strengthening the firm's ability to support businesses, individuals and families across the region. More importantly, the office has well and truly established itself as part of Leeds' professional services community, building relationships with clients, professional contacts and businesses throughout Yorkshire.

The growth reflects a clear ambition from the outset:  to bring one of the region's most respected independent accountancy and business advisory firms into the Leeds market, combining local relationships with the depth of expertise expected from a leading mid-tier practice.

During the past year, the team welcomed Matthew Robinson as Senior Tax Manager. A Chartered Tax Adviser with extensive experience, Matthew has added further specialist tax expertise to the Leeds office, supporting both business and private clients.

Most recently, Forrester Boyd strengthened its presence further with the appointment of Kim Major as Private Client Partner. Kim is a highly regarded tax specialist who advises individuals, families and business owners on a wide range of personal and business tax matters. Her arrival further enhances the firm's ability to provide specialist advice alongside its established audit, accounts and business advisory services.

Together, these appointments have helped create a truly rounded service offering within the Leeds office, covering accounts compliance, business advisory, audit and specialist tax services. Clients also benefit from access to expertise across the wider Forrester Boyd group, with specialists from six other offices supporting the Leeds team.

Founded in 1935, Forrester Boyd has built a reputation as one of the region's leading independent, partner-led firms. That reputation has been earned through decades of delivering high-quality advice, building long-term relationships and investing in exceptional people.

For businesses in Leeds and across Yorkshire, the firm offers something increasingly difficult to find. That is the expertise, resource and breadth of service associated with a larger firm, combined with direct access to partners and senior advisers who know the region and their clients personally.

Leading the Leeds office is Partner Richard Walker, whose own journey with the firm spans much of his professional career.

Richard began his career with Forrester Boyd as a trainee in the firm's Grimsby office before leaving to travel and then relocating to Leeds. Returning to Forrester Boyd to establish and lead the Leeds office represented both a professional challenge and an opportunity to bring the firm's values and reputation to a new market.

Richard said: "When we opened the Leeds office, we knew we were entering a highly competitive market. Leeds has no shortage of professional advisers, but we believed there was room for an independent mid-tier firm with a strong reputation for quality, technical excellence and personal service.

"Having started my career with Forrester Boyd, I've seen first-hand what makes the firm different. The relationships we build with clients, the calibre of our people and the commitment to delivering high-quality advice have always been at the heart of the business.

"Returning to the firm to lead the Leeds office was a fantastic opportunity. Over the last year we've built a strong team, welcomed some exceptional new colleagues and developed relationships with businesses and professional contacts across the region.

"The appointments of Matthew and Kim are important milestones for us because they strengthen the expertise available within Leeds and demonstrate our commitment to continued investment in the office. We have moved beyond being a new entrant to the market and are now firmly established as part of the professional services landscape in Leeds.

"We're incredibly proud of what we've achieved in our first year, but we see this as the beginning rather than the destination."

The firm's growth has been accompanied by significant recognition within the profession. In recent years, Forrester Boyd has been recognised at the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards, winning Mid-Tier Firm of the Year in 2025 and Employer of the Year at the beginning of this year. These accolades reflect the firm's commitment to delivering exceptional client service while continuing to invest in its people and culture.

As the Leeds office enters its second year, the focus remains on building long-term relationships, attracting talented people and continuing to provide the high-quality advice that has defined the Forrester Boyd name for more than 90 years.

One year on, Leeds is no longer the firm's newest venture.

It is an established and growing part of the Forrester Boyd story.
