Don't miss the paper Tax Return deadline

Tax advice

31st October 2022 is the deadline on which paper tax returns for the 2021/22 tax year can be submitted.

Many people have adopted digital technology and submit their tax return online, but not everyone has embraced this method.

So, if you submit yours via the paper method, then you need to get to work as the clock is ticking.

Putting off the inevitable, as tempting as it may feel, could turn out to be expensive. We have seen many taxpayers over the years who have left their preparation until the last minute only to discover that an essential piece of information is missing.

Don’t panic

Unforeseen events can always scupper the best-laid plans. So even though the deadline for your paper submission is 31st October 2022, if you miss it, please do not panic. DO NOT, however, submit a paper return after the deadline - you will get a fine.

You have the online option. It may not have been your original plan but this does give you another three months to find those elusive details of your taxable income and evade the penalty. Of course, we would never recommend that you make use of the full three months. This only risks repeating the missed filing deadline so whilst this is fresh in your mind, find that missing paperwork and submit your return.
