Education update

16th October 2018

Rates relief

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have now included an online form for academy trusts to claim funding for national non-domestic rates (NNDR). Schools can now claim funding for the 2018/19 financial year and you can reclaim funding as far back the 2015/16 financial year if you haven’t already done so.

Further guidance and the online form can be found here.

School resource management self-assessment tool

The ESFA have also recently launched a school resource management self-assessment tool which can be found here.

The tool consists of a checklist and a dashboard and can be used by the Board of Governors to help ensure their academy is meeting the standards to achieve a good level of financial health and resource management. The checklist asks questions of governing bodies and trust boards in 6 areas of resource management.

The dashboard shows how a school’s data compares to thresholds on a range of statistics that have been identified by the Department for Education as indicators of good resource management and outcomes.

Accounts return

A reminder that the 2018 online accounts return is due by Monday 21 January 2019. The ESFA have included a guide to completing the online form and information that is needed in addition to the financial statements which can be found here.

Academy trusts that close or transfer to a new trust between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 should submit a final accounts return using an excel spreadsheet, if completed before the online form is available. The spreadsheet can be found here. Our academies team can help you with this if needed.

The online form is expected to be launched by the ESFA in October 2018. If you would like any help completing the online form (or excel spreadsheet) please contact us as soon as possible.
